The Project
Built in July 2019 and facing the François Mitterrand Library in Paris’ 13th arrondissement, Le Kaleï is a residential building of 88 apartments, from studios to 5-bedrooms, all fitted with balconies, loggias or terraces. Le Kaleï is a certified NF Logement and meets RT 2012 regulations.
Why BMI Group?
The main challenge was to allow the future inhabitants to benefit from optimal acoustic comfort without sacrificing the ceiling height and the living space of their homes.
To tackle this challenge, it was necessary to find the thinnest sound insulation solution, while preserving the building's overall dimensions despite knowing that acoustic performance increases with the insulation's thickness.
To solve this problem, BMI Siplast and Anhydritec, a liquid screed specialist, have combined their expertise to develop a solution that combines two products: BMI Siplast's Assour 22 Confort and Thermio® + of Anhydritec.
Assour 22 Confort is a low thickness solution (< 3 mm) used for premises that require a high soundproofing level. It is made of a heavy fiberglass sheet and surfaced by an elastomeric bitumen compound and a plastic film. It also presents high mechanical performances, meaning no crushing effect over time. The material also includes a self-adhesive selvedge. Its mass surface of 66 kg/m² (instead of the traditional 120) makes it very light and flexible, thus the most convenient solution to install.
Thermio® + of Anhydritec is a thin liquid screen of high density and 30 mm thickness. It is twice as thin and resistant to bending compared to a standard screed. It also meets the requirements of RT 2012 and the E+C label. In addition to its low thickness, it guarantees high performance and thermal comfort, both in heating and cooling.
The combination of Assour 22 Confort (2 layers) and Thermio® + generated better results than expected: a sound reduction of 26 dB with a total system thickness of only 36 mm!
